Independent from Britain since 1957, Ghana is one of five African nations along the northern coastline of the Gulf of Guinea. It is bordered on the west by Cote d’Ivoire, on the north by Burkina Faso, and on the east by Togo. The country consists mostly of low-lying savannah regions. Ghana is a tropical country, with moderate temperatures, averaging 21-32 C, and sunshine and constant breezes. There are two rainy seasons, from march-July and from September-October. August is a short dry spell and a longer one is between mid-October-March. The south of the country experiences the heaviest rainfall during September. The population is a mosaic of ethnic groups and religions. EFFIDUASE GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL;
Effiduase Government Hospital. Is located within the Ashanti region of Ghana. Effigya sekyere district and preferably the district capital. The hospital which was established 40 years ago has 12 people. The maternity department of the hospital has 11 beds and 6 midwifery.
The maternity department of the hospital offers the following:
Prenatal care, home visits, labour and deliveries.
The number of deliveries at the hospital each day is between 3-5 mix babies. Number of pregnant women who report at the hospital each day is between 40-80
The hospital was established 25 years ago and has 15 staff.
The department consists of Male ward, female ward, children ward, maternity ward, youth and HIV aids council.
GENERAL CASES; There has been hundreds of general cases reported at the hospital each day.
ONWE SDA HOSPITAL
The Onwe SDA hospital is located at the Effigya Sekyere east district of the Ashanti region.
The hospital was established 25 years ago and has 15 staff.
The department consists of Male ward, female ward, children ward, maternity ward, youth and HIV aids council.
The number of deliveries at the hospital each day is between 2-4 mix babies. Number of pregnant women who report at the hospital each day is between 10-30
AGONA SDA HOSPITAL
The Agona SDA hospital is located at the Agona district of the Ashanti region.
The hospital was established 20 years ago and has 15 staff.
The department consists of Male ward, female ward, children ward, maternity ward, youth and HIV aids council.
The number of deliveries at the hospital each day is between 2-4 mix babies. Number of pregnant women who report at the hospital each day is between 10-20
Requirements:
Ghana Ministry of Health requires volunteers to have a medical proof. Medical students and pre-medical students should also have a proof.

Volunteers must be 18 years and above to qualify to apply.
PASSPORT / VISA / ARRIVAL
Volunteers must apply for and receive a visa to Ghana before they leave for their trip. Visas could be apply from any Ghanaian embassy in your country .There are many services which will arrange for your visa for an additional fee, or you can apply directly to the Ghanaian embassy. Our volunteers join our programme on a tourist visa basis.

VISA EXTENSIONS
A tourist visa extension can be obtained at the Department of Immigration in Kumasi, Accra, Sunyani, Cape Coast, Koforidua and Tamale.

What fees cover?
Airport meeting and hotel transfer for the first night.
Transportation from Accra – Kumasi
3 time’s daily local meal and accommodation by local host family from the first day of your arrival to the end.
Health Bills (R.V.O guarantees to pay all bills of any sickness during your stay in Ghana.
In-country orientations, project and host families' visitations/ frequent telephone calls.
What fees does not cover:
Traveling on weekends to tourist attraction centers / entering fees for any tourist place/ hotel accommodations
Smoking /drinking and clubbing
Air ticket
Buying gifts/souvenirs to friends and family members back home.
Insurance for lost of languages.
Transportation from host family to project
Housing/Food:
3 times daily local meal and accommodation by local host family from the first day of your arrival to the end; Covered by fees above.
SAFETY IN GHANA
Ghana is the safest country in West Africa regarding crime. You are probably safer walking in the streets here than you are at home. Ghana is a peaceful country. Most of the people are friendly, warm and helpful. However, to make your stay even safer and more comfortable, R.V.O has developed certain guidelines. These guidelines were developed with your safety in mind, so please follow the guidelines for a safe and exciting trip. Please remember that every civil society has some unsociable elements. Ghana is no exception in this.
Please do not walk alone after dark. In case of emergencies, call your host family or the project leader
Please do not join political demonstrations, discussions and groups.

How Do I Apply?
Follow this 3 step process:

2. Next, Print/Fill out the Paper form (PDF or DOC) and mail it to us with supporting documents.
3. Upon receipt of your materials, we will process your application, obtain necessary work permits and deploy you to your volunteering site. Filling out the volunteering form is not a guarantee of placement, but we do try to accommodate as many volunteers as possible during the times you request. Please remember you will have to pay your own visa, temporary licensure or other governmental fees necessary. In the mean time, please gain the latest recommended immunizations
