Peer Health Educator needed for
1 to 3 months
Opportunity Description:
The Peer Health Educator will be responsible for educating youths & adults after the HIV/AIDS Dramas during the post-show HIV 101 which includes condom demonstration, modes of transmitting HIV/AIDS, & links to local partnered clinics for support services such as testing & free medications for opportunistic infections. Information and complete training will be provided by S.C.A.D.C. Peer Health Educators may also be performers in the Dance-Dramas as well. Commitment can range from one to eight weeks during the 2 month long programs spanning the year concurrently. Time commitment averages 3-5 hours per day.

HIV/AIDS Dance-Drama Performer needed for
1 to 3 months
Opportunity Description:
Performers are responsible for basic acting & basic african dancing within the dance-drama that highlights social issues surrounding HIV/AIDS like poverty, role of women & men in traditonal society, lack of access to resources, misinformation & stigma; and, how these issues may impede progress in halting the spread of HIV/AIDS on a personal level. Performers may also be peer health educators as well.Commitment can range from one to eight weeks during the 2 month long programs spanning the year concurrently. Time commitment averages 3-5 hours per day.

Health Counselor needed for

The Health Counselor will be responsible for hosting either one-on-one sessions with youths in our outreach to communicate with them further about HIV/AIDS and interconnected issues; or, host group sessions.Commitment can range from one to eight weeks during the 2 month long programs spanning the year concurrently. Now in it?s 4th year, the Sankofa Center for African Dance Culture, an official 501(c)3 U.S.-based charitable organization is searching for artistic volunteers for our up-coming 2007 arts-based HIV/AIDS education programs in Ghana, West Africa.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
In Conjunction with UCLA Department of African Studies Research, S.C.A.D.C. fuses traditional African dance, drama, other art forms with health information to educate Ghanaian youths about HIV/AIDS. These very necessary performances are both entertaining educational. Our program utilizes the vibrant energies of our volunteers local team to tour various villages schools to help eradicate AIDS in Africa through art Visit our website to apply for upcoming programs if you?d like to be apart of this amazing and life-changing experience in 2007
2007 PROGRAMS: Apply early as space is limited for each program

Selected volunteers may choose any week-length of participation from one to eight weeks.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Individuals with a background in the arts, dance, drama, theatre, music, public health, medicine, and related fields are encouraged to apply. However, volunteers are not necessarily required to be performers. A major aspect of our work is teaching sexual health topics to village youth so applicants possessing peer health education skills are needed. Programs vary but as a volunteer you will be actively involved in the artistic presentation of our HIV/AIDS health campaigns through your specified program.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM INCLUDE?
The program includes transportation to-and-from Kotoko airport in Ghana, extensive cultural immersion, full room and board at the Center or with host families, 3 Ghanaian style meals daily, traditional West African dance drumming lessons, dance-drama/outreach supplies, visits to cultural destinations, services of our extensive local support staff available 24 hours, transportation to performance sites.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM EXCLUDE?
The program excludes round-trip airfare, inoculations, passport visa.
