Lung disease, including asthma, emphysema, and lung cancer, is the third leading cause of death in America. The American Lung Association is the greatest single resource for information and education about asthma. We have assumed a leading role in the fight against tobacco, helping smokers to quit, encouraging children not to start smoking, and protecting nonsmokers from secondhand smoke.
