Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
At Bethesda Memorial Hospital these four words guide us in everything we do. Its the commitment you will find when you visit our full service, 390-bed, not-for-profit hospital that has proudly served this community since 1959. Our founding fathers created a not-for-profit hospital, allowing us to re-invest our profits solely in Bethesda, so that we can grow with our community. That choice is what sets Bethesda apart. Our mission to provide quality health services in a caring manner, regardless of ability to pay, is only the beginning. Together, with our team of 500 physicians in more than 30 specialties and 2,000 employees, Bethesda provides cutting edge medicine with a caring touch.

Come join the hundreds of people who come to Bethesda to volunteer their time and skills. The hospital could not run without volunteer help and volunteer smiles.

We have many options for volunteering. Our positions are constantly changing as we meet wonderful people with talents that they have developed through a lifetime and want to share. Options range from all patient contact to no patient contact; from writing technical courses for clinical staff to changing baby diapers to stuffing envelopes to greeting visitors at the front door.

Volunteers Are Very Important People:
With their warm smiles and tremendous dedication, volunteers are an essential part of Bethesda Memorial Hospitals mission of providing quality health services in a caring manner. Three types of volunteers help make Bethesda a more comfortable place to be: In-Service Volunteers, Auxiliary Volunteers and Bethesda Teens.

In-Service Volunteers:
These volunteers assist Bethesda staff throughout the hospital in a variety of ways. Duties include performing clerical functions, serving as liaisons in the surgical waiting rooms, or answering phones at one of the reception desks.

Auxiliary Volunteers:
The purpose of the Auxiliary is to promote the welfare of the community through services and outreach programs, and to raise funds for the Health Career Scholarship Fund. Auxiliary Volunteers help manage revenue-producing services such as the Gift Shop , Bethesda Bargain Box, Annual Jewelry Sale and the Season of Caring Holiday Tree program. Volunteers also give hospital tours, provide patient tray favors and make knit caps for newborns.

Bethesda Teens:
A popular volunteer program at Bethesda involves local junior high and high school students, ages 14 to 18. Through the Bethesda Teen program, teenagers learn about various career paths within the hospital and see how the various departments function. Some of the areas in which Bethesda Teens volunteer are Surgical Services, Food and Nutrition Services, the Childrens Center, the Ripley Early Learning Center and the Emergency Department.
