Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
Camp Boggy Creek is a year round medical camping facility for children, ages 7-16, who have chronic or life-threatening illnesses. We are one of 14 camps, internationally, that are part of the HOLE IN THE WALL ASSOCIATION OF CAMPS which was started by the late actor Paul Newman. We serve over 13 different illness groups including heart disease, HIV, sickle cell anemia, and cancer. The mission of Boggy Creek is to enrich the lives of these children by creating camping experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe, and medically sound. The children who come to our camp come absolutely free of charge along with our volunteers. We are a not-for-profit organization, which depends entirely on the monetary generosity of others, as well as on the volunteers (19 years or older) who provide the man-power to help make this experience happen for these children. All lodging and food are provided.
Volunteers serve as Cabin Counselors during the summer, living and playing with our campers for an entire week of fun during 9 camps which host a different illness each session. We also offer 20 Family Weekends during the fall and spring months; allowing the entire family to come to camp with the camper.
We have a SERIOUS NEED FOR MALE VOLUTNEERS during our summer camping season!
Volunteering at Boggy Creek gives medical students the benefit of interacting with children with chronic illnesses. Living, working, and playing with these kids, as their cabin counselor, offers a unique insight into the daily life of a person with a chronic illness. Students will spend one or more fun-filled weeks doing all the fun activities with their campers while participating in their initial medical evaluation, overseeing their medications, and being available at activities to provide first aid if necessary. No prior medical experience or knowledge is required to be a Cabin Counselor. (A medial license within the state of Florida is required to volunteer as a physician or other medical personnel at our Medical Center)Volunteers are welcome to visit our Medical Center, called the "Patch" and our Medical Director during their stay with us.
Visit our website at www.BoggyCreek.org for more details on how you can apply and change the life of a child this summer. |
