Opportunity Description:
Volunteer at Camp Getaway- a camp for families affected by HIV/AIDS
Do you like working with people? Are you interested in HIV/AIDS? Do you like the outdoors? Do you have one week in August available? If you answered yes to these questions, then please consider being a volunteer for Camp Getaway, a program of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois. Camp Getaway is a one-week camp provided free of charge to families in the Chicagoland area that are affected by HIV/AIDS. The camp takes place in August at a Camp in Wisconsin.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help staff the week of camp. Camp Volunteers are responsible for creating a positive, safe camp environment, leading activities for campers, being supportive team members, and modeling good parenting, conflict resolution and affirmation skills. And having fun!
To volunteer you must be:
- Flexible, patient, responsible, trustworthy
- Energetic, enthusiastic, enjoy people
- Positive team player, good communication
- Able to function well in August heat, with outdoor conditions (meals and sleeping accommodations are indoors with fans)
- Must be available Sunday, Aug. 12- Friday, Aug. 17- no exceptions
To volunteer, you must submit an application with references, a TB test, a background check, complete an interview, and attend provided training sessions.

Camp Getaway is a one-week camp provided free of charge to families in the Chicagoland area that are affected by HIV/AIDS. The camp takes place in August at a Camp in Wisconsin.
We are currently looking for healthcare professionals to help staff our medical clinic the week of camp. Medical clinic volunteers are responsible for creating a positive, safe camp environment, administering medication to campers, bandaging cuts and scrapes, being supportive team members, and modeling good parenting, conflict resolution and affirmation skills. And having fun! To volunteer you must be:
