Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
CardioStart, incorporated in November 1994, is an international humanitarian organization dedicated especially, but not exclusively, to assisting children and adults with heart disease. CardioStart is fully registered in the United States as a 501-c3 non-profit entity, and is supported by chapters in several locations in the USA, Canada, Central America, the United Kingdom. In response to requests from countries lacking heart and lung surgical and other specialist facilities, volunteer teams conduct overseas missions utilizing medical, technical and non-medical expertise from sixteen locations around the world. No fees are charged for any services provided. Recipient countries, which require support, fall into two basic categories of need: ? Those with hospitals incapacitated by civil strife, or severe lack of funding or personnel; ? Those lacking existing facilities to effectively perform complex surgery. CardioStart maintains a fully functioning, transportable unit for the performance of many children?s and adult heart operations and supports other surgical and medical specialties to function effectively. Assistance is also given to hospitals with varying levels of development with each visit, by carefully matched donations according to specific need. CardioStart includes a comprehensive nutritional and orphanage support program to many children in hospitals and rural clinics. This grew from the observation that those afflicted with heart disease provide a severe drain on their family resources in hospital visits, medication costs and missed employment. Many families of children and adults who undergo heart disease correction and management receive practical assistance in varying forms and this activity now represents a substantial portion of the support provided. CardioStart seeks, and regularly receives personal donations, specific equipment donations from companies, reusable items and products that have reached or exceeded their expiration date. Nutritional products, children?s educational material and toys are also regularly accepted in donation for its orphanage assistance program.
