Opportunity Description:
We're looking for Caring, Dependable and Committed Individuals Needed to Volunteer their Time to our Terminally ill Patients in the Reseda area.
Our Volunteer would basically provide emotional support, empathy, respite and other supportive services to our socially isolated hospice patients and their families.
Responsibilities include:
Our volunteers may do this by offering various forms of assistance, comfort measure, supportive services, including reading to and writing for patient, sitting at bedside, especially during dying process and respite for families; assisting patients and families to cope with problems of terminal illness and death; helping them to express feelings and concerns; completing written reports of contact and submitting them to the Volunteer Coordinator; refering to the Volunteer Coordinator any immediate needs, problems or concerns; and attending on-going education programs and peer support groups, as requested.
At Gerinet Healthcare, the most important thing our volunteers need to possess is a desire to help with care and compassion. Patient and Family Visitor volunteers should be great listeners, have a strong comfort with death and the dying process, and able to document work clearly and concisely.
