Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
The idea for Gulf Coast Medical Center was conceived out of a simple desire - to improve the quality of healthcare for the families in and surrounding Bay County, Florida. The idea began more than 30 years ago with two young Panama City physicians who had a dream. Volunteers come from all walks of life bringing a myriad of skills and abilities with them. Our volunteers represent a cross-section of the community, and include retirees, teens and individuals that are employed. Gulf Coast Medical Centers Sunshine Volunteers give their time and energy in service to our patients, their families, visitors, and hospital staff.
The minimum age for our VolunTEEN Program is 14 years. Certain specialty areas have a minimum age requirement of 18 years. Our senior citizens bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and talent to our program. There is no maximum age limit as we believe that people of all ages who care about helping others are vital assets to Volunteer Services.
We train our volunteers during both a comprehensive orientation program and in on-the-job training in each specific service area. Each volunteer receives a written job description, which details service responsibilities. Our Volunteer Handbook is an important resource guide that lists all policies and procedures that relate volunteer services.
