The medical center has long been recognized as a preeminent center for cancer care and cardiac care, including open heart surgery and interventional cardiology. Other areas of specialty include general surgery, orthopedic, and neurology programs. Volunteers have been supporting the hospital in Concord since 1949 and to this day they remain a vital part of John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campuss tradition of service to the community. John Muir Medical Center Volunteers, Concord Campus provide a variety of essential services that enhance the lives of patients, visitors, physicians, and staff. In addition to their other good works, the volunteers operate the hospital gift shop, run a junior volunteer program, and sponsor annually a scholarship program for students.
