Current Volunteer Opportunities (Unpaid Positions)
Processing medical supplies for shipment to economically developing countries needed for
More than 1 year
Opportunity Description:
Volunteers are needed to organize, sort, package and process medical supplies for shipment overseas. Did you know that in the United States 7,000 tons of medical supplies are discarded each day? Supplies are sent to landfills and incinerators because of production overages, procedural excess and regulatory requirements when they are often unused. At the same time, poor populations all over the world are dying for lack of medical supplies. Let's get these lifesaving items to the people who need them! No medical background is needed.

Process Surgical Instruments needed for
Opportunity Description:
MedShare International seeks volunteers to identify, evaluate and classify a large stock of surgical tools and instruments to be shipped to clinics and hospitals abroad. We are looking for volunteers to make a weekly or bimonthly commitment (3 hours - one afternoon a week) to help us process these instruments and make them available to needy facilities overseas. We have sorting sessions on Thursday afternoons from 1 - 4 pm. These items are invaluable, however without the skilled volunteers to process the instruments, they sit on multiple pallets accumulating in a warehouse. Please loan MedShare your expertise so that these instruments may be sent where they are so desperately needed.
Although previous OR experience would be ideal, if you don't have a surgical background and are willing to learn new skills and able to commit to this project, we certainly welcome your assistance.

Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
MedShare International, a 501-(c)-3 non-profit organization, provides vital medical supplies and equipment to economically developing countries by recycling unneeded surplus from U.S. manufacturers, distributors and healthcare systems. MedShare recovers and delivers medical goods that are valuable and needed, but which would be discarded due to procedural excess, regulatory requirements or production overage. Shipments go to qualified healthcare facilities in developing countries and are customized by direct product orders from MedShares stock by the recipient institutions. MedShare offers U.S. healthcare providers and suppliers an environmentally and socially responsible alternative to throwing away medical materials.
