Founded in 1979, Medical Teams International dispatches teams to provide disaster and medical deveopment relief around the world. The group also operates mobile dental clinics in Oregon and Washington. Short-term (minimum of one week -maximum of three weeks) posts are available in countries such as Mexico, Honduras, Romania, and Uzbekistan. Medical Teams International welcomes all health care professionals and especially needs physicians available on short notice. Medical Teams International sends out medical and dental professionals and various layworker teams, to poverty and crisis areas all over the world. These volunteers usually pay for their own transportation and expenses with everything for the team coordinated through our headquarters located in Tigard, OR. We utilize the following kinds of teams: Disaster Response; General Medical (including OB/GYN); Dental; Plastic, & Ophthalmology Surgery; Infant Stimulation Massage; Public Health; and Layworker Teams that do a variety of community development projects. We also distribute more than $100 million worth of humanitarian aid each year, mostly in the form of medicines and medical supplies. We are a Christian organization; however, we make no religious requirements of the recipients of our assistance. Also, we make no religious requirements of our volunteers, other than we ask them to respect the ministries of our field partners, and comply with our code of conduct policies (which is informed by our Christian faith) while serving and traveling with Medical Teams International.
