Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
The Mission of MISSION HOSPICE is to provide quality hospice care to patients with a limited life expectancy. The primary goal of MISSION HOSPICE is improving the quality of life when the quanity of life is limited thru pain management and symptom control.
WHAT IS HOSPICE?
Hospice is a unique type of healthcare designed to give dignity, comfort and quality of life to people who are facing the end (about 6 months, more or less) of a terminal illness. It takes a very special person to be a volunteer for people like this. Patients and families appreciate volunteers so much.
WHY ARE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED?
Volunteers are needed to provide friendly visits to our Hospice patients who live in convalescent homes, retirement homes OR if you prefer you may see patients in their own homes. At a patients home volunteers give a family member who is taking care of the ill person, a much-needed break, by sitting with the patient while the caregiver does other chores, shopping or just takes a rest.
WHAT DO VOLUNTEERS DO?
Give 1 to 4 hours a week if you're able. Read the paper or a book to the patient, share hobbies, play listen to soothing music, talk and share stories or just listen to their life stories, bring flowers from your garden, share talents, share photos, watch movies or just sit... quietly and be the gift of presence for them.
You may visit a patient on the weekends if you have school/work during the week.
