Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
Welcome to Pacific Coast Hospice a sister hospice under Odyssey Healthcare, Inc. We? are happy that you have chosen to join team as a hospice volunteers. We want to share with you our passion and mission of comfort care for all our patients and families. We believe that you will find many of us at Pacific Coast Hospice feel it is a privilege to serve in this very special type of work.
We started the company without a name or business cards and with only a vision of becoming the leading hospice provider in the world. After weeks of brainstorming names for the company we were on an airplane flight and viewing the movie Apollo 13 and a line caught our attention? ? The Odyssey is dying,? referring to the crippled spacecraft that needed to complete its intended journey. According to Webster?s Dictionary, Odyssey is defined as ?a spiritual wandering or quest?. We quickly became Odyssey Healthcare.
Our logo is a house surrounded by a rainbow of colors. The door can be viewed as either opening or shutting. This logo has special meaning for us because the talented woman who painted it for us did so using a mouth wand. She was a quadriplegic and unfortunately it was her last project. After completing the final draft of our logo she wheeled herself as usual into her whirlpool at home. Her family wasn?t home and something went terribly wrong and she drowned. We don?t believe that it was a coincidence that her name was Faith.
Before we admitted the first patient we developed the Odyssey Service Standard. We believe that these 14 standards set us apart from other hospice providers and we expect that each team member will strive to do his or her best in living up to these vital commitments. The last service standard, Y.C.C.O.M., stands for
You Can Count On Me.
That is a promise we ask you to make each day to our patients, families, and each other.
It will be our goal to fulfill you volunteering goals as well as meet the needs of our families. We welcome you to the Pacific Coast Hospice and wish you much happiness and longevity in you Odyssey adventure.
