Current Volunteer Opportunities (Unpaid Positions)
HEALTH & MEDICAL VOLUNTEER PLACEMENTS IN GHANA needed for
1 to 3 months
Opportunity Description:
PHIVOG facilitates a diverse range of health and medical volunteering placements in Ghana, West Africa. These include placements in doctoring, nursing, mental health, dentistry and optometry (also veterinary health & medicine). Accessing basic healthcare services is one of the most challenging issues for low-income and disadvantages populations. The problems are particularly acute in the area of reproductive health services and with regard to reducing the spread of communicable diseases. Thus, the support of volunteers is vitally important. Volunteers will work alongside local colleagues in a number of different health facilities – hospitals, maternity clinics, children’s hospitals, HIV/AIDS wards, and local health clinics. Working on health projects is a wonderful way to develop personal and professional skills and abilities, whilst becoming familiar with challenging health issues faced by developing countries. The duration of volunteer placements is flexible and subject to agreement with volunteers.
The activities and responsibilities that volunteers undertake vary according to volunteers' experience. PHIVOG liaises with local healthcare providers in order to find suitable placements based on students' & practitioners' skills & specialisms. For further information please visit our website - see' volunteering placements', specifically 'health & medicine'.

Placements, based mainly in and around the capital city Accra, are open to individuals and groups aged 18+. The duration of volunteer placements is flexible and subject to agreement with volunteers.

Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
Philanthropic Volunteers of Ghana (PHIVOG) is a grassroots, not-for-profit, registered NGO passionately committed to providing an ethical and effective placement service for volunteers in Ghana. We work in partnership with local people to develop voluntary activities that help to better the lives of socially disadvantaged communities groups.
We realise that everyone who wants to volunteer has different skills, knowledge, expectations and amounts of time they would like to share with others. To reflect this we offer tailor made voluntary opportunities that vary in nature, scope and duration. For example, gap-year, career-break summer break placements in areas such as health, medicine, social care, education, etc. Whether you practice or are learning to practice in doctoring, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy or optometry, etc. Whether you wish to work with orphaned children, to support HIV/AIDS health programs or are seeking other opportunities, we aim to find a way to channel your expertise, interests and motivations so you can make a real difference through volunteering. |
