Patient Care Volunteer needed for
More than 1 year
Opportunity Description:
Samaritan Care Hospice needs the gift of your heart, talents, and time! Volunteers are the heart of hospice. We need your caring hearts, gentle spirits and helping hands to assist our patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Become part of our team and visit our patients, providing companionship and presence for the patient or respite for their caregiver. A thorough training program is provided.
There is as a great need for volunteers in the following areas:
Orange County-Orlando, Oviedo, Winter Park, Maitland, Apopka, Pine Hills, Ocoee, Winter Haven and Zellwood.
Osceola County- St. Cloud, Kissimmee, and Poinciana.
Male volunteers and bi-lingual volunteers are strongly encouraged to apply!

Effective Communication Skills: active listening skills are very important
Ability To Work Independently: you are able to build your schedule according to your flexibility, in conjunction with the needs of the patient family
Non-Judgmental Atitude:

* No specific amount of hours, times or days are required. (It is up to you based on your availability)
* "Assignments" (patients) are assigned to volunteers with consideration to distance and gas prices. (typically 10 mile radius from home address zip code)

Administrative/Clerical Volunteer needed for
Opportunity Description:
Administrative volunteers help our office staff in many ways, most importantly by maintaining our important patient records in the hospice office.
Other ways to assist may include:
-Collating manuals and admission packets
-Typing, filing and other light office work
-Sending birthday cards, sympathy cards and bereavement notes
-Coordinating support services
-Running copies
-Making phone calls
-Handling other general office tasks
Desired Skills:
Ability To Work Independently: you may be asked to work alone on occasion, though you will always have someone available if you need assistance

Bereavement Volunteer needed for
6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description:
Bereavement Volunteers may participate in providing bereavement support in one or more of the following ways:
-Track & file bereavement documents in the bereavement notebook
-Organize and manage monthly bereavement mailings to caregivers and friends of Samaritan Care Hospice patients
-Enter contact information into database
-Update support group and counseling referral sheets on a regular basis
-Assist in the coordination of monthly outreach programs
-Participate in memorial services and support programs
-Depending on training and education, may also be called upon to make telephone contact with bereaved persons
Desired Skills:
Organizational Skills: You will be asked to track and file paperwork and resources; to make calls to referral sources, and other activities which require attention to detail
Data Entry: You will be asked to enter information into our database, to complete mail merges, and similar activities
Respectful of Confidentiality: You will be dealing with sensitive and confidential information

Tuck-In Caller needed for
6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description:
Tuck-In volunteers call our homebound patients each Thursday from our office to ensure that their supply, medication, and other needs will be taken care of prior to the weekend ahead. Callers obtain specific information that will assist in preparing patients for the weekends. In addition, these volunteers provide emotional support as appropriate.
The call is a reassuring reminder that the Samaritan Care Hospice team is only a phone call away, and many patients and caregivers look forward to their regular Thursday calls!

Calls are typically made from our office on Thursdays between 10:00 am-1:00 pm
