Gift Shop Volunteer needed for 6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description: Provide efficient and courteous service to the Gifts Shop customers and help maintain the clinic retail operation. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide excellent customer service for patients, families and staff who enter the gift shop. 2. Assist with purchases as needed. 3. Receive incoming phone calls and determine appropriate action, provide all directions and information in a courteous and helpful manner. 4. Process sales transactions, including cash, check and credit cards. Ability to make correct change for cash sales. 5. Assist with unpacking, tagging and stocking merchandise. Clean displays and maintain needed items. 6. Make eye contact; greet every patient/visitor entering the gift shop. 7. Respect the privacy of patients and family members, and abide by the confidentiality policies of the Volunteer Services Program. TIME COMMITMENT A minimum volunteer commitment of six months is requested. Volunteer shifts are available from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and 12:00 until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Two volunteers will be scheduled per shift. QUALIFICATIONS · Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. · Experience in retail operations, specifically cash register experience. · Experienced in using personal computers with Windows operating systems and searching for information on the World Wide Web (Internet). · Ability to bend, reach and lift items (while restocking, unpacking and displaying goods). · Familiar with Emergency Response system (this will be provided in training). · Ability to provide empathetic listening, warmth and compassion. · Ability to be flexible and sensitive to the needs of patients, families, caregivers and staff. · Respect of diverse lifestyles, cultures, religions and values. · Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with fellow volunteers. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Volunteer applicants are asked to complete disclosure forms for a national criminal background check. Annual tuberculosis testing and documentation for Chickenpox (Varicella), Measles, Mumps and Rubella are required for all volunteers who have contact with patients. In addition, volunteers between the ages of 19 and 64 are encouraged to receive a single dose of Tdap vaccine to protect against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis. ORIENTATION New Gift Shop Volunteers are asked to complete an interview and orientation before they can be assigned to the SCCA Clinic's Gift Shop. Volunteers are encouraged to attend all in-service sessions for continuing education. The next orientation is scheduled for July 22nd and 29th, 2:00 - 5:00pm (attendance at both sessions is required). Volunteers are encouraged to attend in-service programs for continuing education. HEALTH PRECAUTIONS Patients are extremely vulnerable to potentially life-threatening infections because their immune systems are suppressed from chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Massage Therapy Volunteer needed for 6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description: POSITION SUMMARY To provide a more positive experience to patients and caregiver at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance by offering comfort hand massages in the waiting rooms on the 1 st and 5 th floors. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Give comfort hand massages to patients and caregivers at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. 2. Comply with all infection control and confidentiality policies in regards to patient care. 3. Strive to remain compassionate, non-judgmental, flexible and impartial when assisting people that have lifestyles, spiritual beliefs, and interests that are different from your own. 4. Respect the privacy of patients and family members, and abide by the Volunteer Services Program's confidentiality policies. TIME COMMITMENT New volunteers must be able to commit a minimum of three months to the Volunteer Services Program. Volunteers assist an average of one 2-4 hour shift per week. HEALTH PRECAUTIONS Patients are extremely vulnerable to potentially life-threatening infections because their immune systems are suppressed from chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Because of this, all volunteers must abide by universal precaution and infectious disease guidelines in order to protect themselves and patients. These guidelines are listed in the Volunteer Manual. Volunteer Driver needed for 6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description: POSITION SUMMARY Provide transportation from and to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Boeing Field for Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) patients and their primary caregivers. Volunteer Drivers may use the Volunteer Services van or use their own vehicle for arrivals and departures. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Serve as an ambassador of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance by welcoming new patients and their families at the airport and driving them to their residence in Seattle. Provide an orientation to the Lake Union area and offer to drive families to a nearby grocery store. 2. Transport family members and friends who are primary caregivers to and from the airport. Drive patients to the airport when they have been discharged from the SCCA. 3. (Optional) Conduct tours of apartment buildings that are near the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Clinic for prospective patients who are on a medical consultation visit. 4. Strive to remain compassionate, non-judgmental, flexible and impartial when assisting people that have lifestyles, spiritual beliefs, and interests that are different from your own. 5. Respect the privacy of patients and family members, and abide by the Volunteer Services Program's confidentiality policies. TIME COMMITMENT New Volunteer Drivers are asked to commit a minimum of six months to transporting patients and families at the SCCA. Transportation times are negotiable. Volunteer drivers transport patients and family members an average of four times a month. QUALIFICATIONS · Must be a safe driver with no serious driving infractions within the past three years. · Ability to interact with a variety of people. Volunteer applicants are asked to complete the FHCRC/SCCA disclosure forms, and authorize a criminal background check and an annual driving record check. Guest Services Volunteer needed for 6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description: POSITION SUMMARY Provide information and social support for oncology patients and families at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) Clinic, which is located at 825 Eastlake Avenue East on the South Lake Union campus of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Guest Services Volunteers work in the Main Lobby on the first floor. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide excellent customer service for patients and families who enter the clinic through the main lobby or call the Guest Services desk. 2. Provide information about Seattle and the Lake Union area, including restaurants, grocery stores, shopping areas, bus routes, shuttle services and recreational activities. 3. Assist the Volunteer Services staff with distributing donated tickets for special events and other diversionary activities to patients' families. 4. Escort patients to floors and appointments, assisting wheelchair patients as needed. 5. Assist with patient parking validation and requesting taxicabs and special transportation (HopeLink, First Hill Shuttle, etc) for patients as needed. 6. Distribute maps/shuttle schedules, general information on Clinic (brochures, classes). 7. Direct customers to daily classes throughout the Clinic; distribute daily class schedule to receptions desks in the clinic. 8. Organize brochures, magazines and books in the patient waiting areas on a regular basis. 9. Make eye contact; greet every patient/visitor entering the building. 10. Respect the privacy of patients and family members, and abide by the confidentiality policies of the Volunteer Services Program.
