Medical doctor (male circumcision) needed in
Matsapha, Swaziland
Job Description:
Placement ref: SWA022-001
Two 12month placements, to start in July 2009.
Duties and responsibilities
The development worker will perform medical procedures within PSI’s Male Circumcision clinic, reporting to the Clinical Director. S/He will be responsible for working with MC clients to ensure the highest quality of service provision. S/He will provide instruction to nurse/counsellors assisting in the procedure. S/He will monitor inventory of supplies and performance of equipment, provide feedback on operational issues such as client flow, procedure protocols, and client communication. This position will involve some interaction with project partners in the public, private, and NGO sectors.
• Attend and successfully complete training on male circumcision service provision and counselling protocols
• Safely provide MC services to clients
• Work with nurses and counsellors to ensure a high quality of counselling
• Assist in training
• Participate in quality assurance visits and respond to evaluator concerns
• Maintain a supply log and an equipment checklist
• Ensure patient information is accurately collected and maintained in accordance with monitoring and evaluation guidelines
Qualifications and experience
• A diploma in a medical field, preferably with a specialisation in surgery or urology
• Certified to practice medicine in country of origin
• Experience in a surgical and/or clinical setting preferred
• Good knowledge of HIV/AIDS
Essential criteria
• Ability to take initiative, plan and monitor activity and outcomes
• Good interpersonal skills, including managing difficult working situations
• Ability to analyse, interpret and solve complex problems in diverse cultures
• Capacity to work under pressure in achieving set goals
• Fluency in English
• Excellent computer skills: Windows XP Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and E-mail)
Desirable criteria
• Management experience in a clinical setting
• Experience in training clinical staff
• Experience of working with NGOs
• An interest in public health
