Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
The Dutch Stichting Corporate Governance Foundation has started the iPatientSafety project in the United Stated, focused on improving patient safety in medical centers across the US. With over 200.000 preventable deaths annually, medical mistakes kill a lot more people than even breast cancer.
Although leading medical centers in the US have the resources to put a lot of effort towards improving patient safety, a lot of medical centers do not have the resources to make a step change improvement in patient safety.
The iPatientSafety project trains medical centers in improving risk assessment processes to better identify, prioritize and deal with patient safety hazards like infections and human error. Across the US we are training medical centers in the BowTie methodology, a visual, operational and intuitive risk assessment methodology. This methodology is used by more than 30 of the Global Fortune 500.
The iPatientSafety project also offers a great software tool to support BowTie visual risk assessment: BowTieMED. This tool is fun and engaging to use, and makes medical risk processes much more productive. The iPatientSafety project provides this software to medical centers who cannot afford it.
Who are we looking for?
Our target audience are patient safety professionals (both quality professionals and clinicians) who are often in their 40’s and 50’s. A volunteer who can provide software support training, from home via GoToMeeting Skype is an invaluable resource for the iPatientSafety project.
We are looking for volunteers who:
• Have good software skills and are very handy with software applications.
• Have good communicative skills
• Love to train and teach others, are patient in their approach.
Other important aspects:
• Working from home is not a problem, we offer flexibility in when you work and we sometimes need flexibility in when users in the US are supported.
• You will be engaged with a diverse group of medical professionals all across the US.
• You will need to sign a Non-disclosure agreement as risk assessment information is shared with you.
• You will get full licenses of the software for your own use and you will receive extensive training.
• After volunteering for 1.5 years, there is a growth path towards a paid function in commercial BowTieMED support.
• Having (had) medical experience is not necessary but can be an advantage.
• Your contribution is critical to reducing the 200.000 preventable deaths, and many more who are severely harmed, in the iPatientSafety project.
