Name of position: Project Mgr., Community Health Worker Training Location of Project: Yushu Prefecture, East Tibet (Yushu County, Qinghai Province) at Surmang Foundation's Dharma Sagara Clinic. Length of appointment: two months +: July and August 2006 General Description: Surmang Foundation is the first NGO to work in a Tibetan area in Qinghai Province. We are a US 501 (c)3 non profit and EU NGO as well. Our remote primary care clinic services the farmers, nomads and monastics, who are 100% ethnic Tibetan. The clinic has been in operation since 1992, and since 1996 in a passive solar building with solar electricity. The mission of the clinic is to provide health care and promote health to these remote people. The Community Health Worker project will connect our clinic's resources to the even more remote nomadic peoples within our catchment area. It is the second year of Surmang Foundation's KAP. Candidates: Should be in excellent health, since travel and living at high altitude present significant risks. In addition the candidate will have an MPH and experience in third world health promotion and CHW training. Knowledge of Chinese and the Khampa dialect of Tibetan is a plus. Salary and expenses: depend on qualifications. Connection: write leeweingrad@surmang.org with a CV and brief cover letter.
