Job Description:
The main reasons for bringing health access to the hill tribe communities are three-folds:
To increase society's acceptance of underprivileged and marginalized hill-tribes.
To influence change in aspects of the delivery of health services in rural and remote Thailand.
To advance the understanding of and to improve the health, development, and quality of life both for children and adults in high-risks situation.

Job Description:
We move from village to village as we give free medical treatments. As we treat sick hill tribes we stay 2-3 days in a village. We see 60-100 patients a day and set up 2-4 clinics per week, which cover 3-5 villages. So, roughly we see 250-350 patients a week.
Villagers come with different sicknesses ranging from skin rashes to systemic disorders. The illnesses are between dermatological disorders caused by fungus, virus, bacteria, and respiratory, parasitic infections and malnutrition. Illness related to low sanitation and poor water supply are seen quite often, and high blood pressure and blood sugar cases are also seen temporary.

Job Description:
As a medical professional you will be able to do lots of hand on works in a village bamboo hut clinic such as assisting Dr. David in the following ways:
Examining patients starting with taking blood pressure, vital signs, and doing medical tests which cover ABO blood grouping ( ABO& Rh factor ), blood staining and screening for parasites ( malaria and worms), blood sugar and fecal test for parasites, and urine analysis. Arranging eye checkup and eye glasses are sometime necessary.
Cutting, stitching, cleaning and dressing wounds are a part of our daily medical routine and giving injections both IV and IM are common practice in the village clinics. Giving vitamins shots and drips are usual to weak and anemic hill tribe women and men. Being a pharmacist is a must for some of you at the clinics as Dr. David writes a prescription. As a pharmacist you will have to dive into a hips of medical supplies and find the right prescriptions and fill up the prescription bags for the patients.

Where There Is No Doctor in the hill-tribes is a volunteer run, non-profit medical social organization in Thailand helping the poor, underprivileged and marginalized hill-tribe communities of Northern Thailand.
Working and volunteering primarily in two sub-districts of Chiang Ria, the organization moves from village to village giving free medical treatment, building toilets and clean water supply, and do many other social activities. Through our continued efforts, the communities we serve are able to live a healthier and better quality of life. |
