Volunteer Description:
Volunteers may stay in 1 government clinic or may rotate through various clinics throughout the country. Volunteers have to spend a minimum of 1 week in any one clinic but can transfer from clinic to clinic.
Third and fourth year dental and medical students can do clinical work under the supervision of a dentist or physician. Teams are encouraged to apply.

1) Kamuzu General Hospital
Located in Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi. Malawi is one of sub-Saharan Africa's most densely populated countries, with about 1.72 million people living in the Lilongwe region, an area that relies heavily on agriculture and urban farming. Internet access is available at the clinic and international telephone access is available in the clinic.

There is a shortage of:

  • Pathologists
  • Pharmacists
  • General physicians/paediatrics
  • Psychiatrists
  • Surgeons
  • Dialysis unit available and functional but no nephrologist in entire country
  • 1 Orthopaedic surgeon available in country â€" 70km south of hospital
  • No oncologists in entire country

Requirements:
Health personnel who are fully trained and qualified will be allowed by the Ministry of Health to offer free medical services in the country and will be given experts from the ministry of health to accompany them to the field/camp.
